Bret B. Stuntz is an attorney and geologist who provides expertise to various developer, industrial, and municipal clients to help them overcome financial, environmental, legal/regulatory, and logistical barriers to successful projects. He specializes in brownfield and other troubled-site redevelopment, navigating the complex interplay between markets, brownfield site conditions, real estate finance, agency regulations, incentive procurement and management, and implementation of remediation and construction activities.

Bret has 18 years of environmental consulting and real estate finance experience. He has created and delivered innovative gap-financing, brownfield, and other environmental solutions to clients on hundreds of projects. A senior consultant with SME, his responsibilities include managing redevelopment projects, providing senior technical leadership, and consulting on liability issues. He also advises owners, developers, and communities in the areas of real estate finance, urban and brownfield investment strategies, environmental assessment of contaminated sites, remedial investigations, and environmental regulatory compliance.

Bret holds a B.A. in Geology from the University of Pennsylvania and received his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is a Housing Development Finance Professional for the National Development Council.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his kids, cooking and participating in outdoor activities such as canoeing, hiking, and mountain biking.
