Peter D. Fourtounis, PE serves as a Project Engineer and Project Manager in SME's Plymouth office. With over 6 years of experience, he provides geotechnical engineering services by developing recommendations of shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, pavements, engineered fill, settlement, slope stability, and seismic design. He is well versed in planning and executing site explorations, analysis and design. Peter specializes in hillside and mass grading, earth retention systems, slope stability, and seismic design. He is experienced with soil and rock classification, as well as performing multiple ASTM geotechnical laboratory test procedures.

Prior to joining SME, Peter has managed operations for numerous projects. He worked in Southern California providing geotechnical engineering services for municipalities, large land developers, national homebuilders and multi-national companies. He has worked on a variety of geotechnical projects including pipeline and road infrastructure improvements, forensic/distress evaluations, retaining walls, ground improvement, Geogrid applications, soil cement, pavement design and post-tension slab design.

A registered Professional Engineer in California and Michigan, Peter earned both BS and an MS degrees in Civil Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He is a member of The California Geotechnical Engineering Association (CalGeo) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Outside of work, Peter enjoys watching football, basketball, and track & field. Peter competed as an NCAA II Division I Scholarship Track and Field Athlete for his alma mater, so he'll always have a special place for the sport. He also plays the drums and guitar and enjoys working out with his wife. He's active in the Greek Orthodox Community.
