Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

SME is seeking a regular, full-time Lead Geotechnical Driller to join our Drilling Team in our Indianapolis, Indiana office.

Responsibilities for this position include:
• Working as part of a drilling team or crew;
• Performing subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling techniques, which may include auger driller, mud rotary drilling, and/or diamond bit coring techniques;
• Installing instrumentation, piezometers, and monitor wells;
• Coordinating work with drilling supervisors, engineers, geologists, project managers and utility locating services;
• Maintaining drilling supplies and equipment, including loading and unloading for shop storage or field use; and,
• Evaluating potential maintenance requirements and coordinate with supervisor to have maintenance items addressed or completed on own.

Requirements for this position include:
• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of relevant experience required;
• CDL Class A license preferred;
• Indiana Well Drillers License preferred;
• OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training preferred;
• Experience in auger, mud rotary and diamond bit rock coring techniques with various types of rotary drill rigs for split-spoon sampling, Shelby tube sampling, rock sampling and installation of instrumentation, piezometers and monitoring wells;
• Capable of reading plans, maps and schematics, along with being familiar with coordinate systems, in order to mark and/or locate points of interest in the field on project related sites or alignments;
• Ability to work out-of-town on projects located away from base of operations;
• Ability to pass drug screening and security background checks;
• Clean driving record with no restrictions;
• Safe working record;
• Ability to comfortably lift and carry 100 lbs., stand for long periods of time, and be able to perform strenuous physical labor required;
• Must be willing to work in all kinds of weather conditions and work overtime;
• Basic mechanical skills and equipment troubleshooting abilities;
• Good written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to prioritize duties on a daily basis to maximize safety and efficiency;
• Strong work ethic and drive to overcome obstacles; and,
• Team player effective at successfully working with others both inside and outside of SME.
