Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

SME is looking for a full-time Lab Technician to join our Indianapolis, Indiana office. This position will require close coordination with our Project Managers, and field staff.

Responsibilities for this position will include performing:
• Compressive strength testing of concrete, grout, and mortar specimens;
• Standard and modified proctor testing;
• Wash gradation analyses;
• Visual engineering classification of soil and rock samples and pavement cores;
• Undrained shear strength testing;
• Atterberg limits tests;
• Hydrometer analyses;
• Water content determinations;
• Organic content tests;
• Durability testing of chemically treated soils;
• Pavement core condition assessments and density determinations;
• Data reduction and analysis;
• Laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration;
• Field related work when needed; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for this position include:
• High school diploma or equivalent required;
• 2 to 5 years’ experience preferred;
• A solid understanding of basic engineering concepts;
• Familiar with ASTM and AASHTO laboratory testing procedures for soils, aggregates, concrete and asphalt;
• Familiar with USCS classification for soils and aggregates;
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
• Attention to detail, good writing and excellent communication skills;
• An excellent driving record;
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively;
• Ability to stand for long periods of time; and
• Ability to work overtime and weekends, as needed, to meet the needs of our clients.
