Location: Plymouth, Michigan

SME is seeking a regular, full-time Survey Technician to join our busy Infrastructure Design Service group in Plymouth, Michigan office. The Survey Technician is responsible for the project’s CAD and LiDAR quality, technical and schedule success by using AutoCAD Civil 3D and LiDAR processing software to provide support to a team of technical professionals providing surveying and engineering.

Responsibilities for this position will include:
• Produce drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Work closely with surveyors, engineers, technicians, project managers and support staff to produce drawings and layout data.
• Produce detailed, high quality drawings and reports in accordance with company standards and methodologies, technical guidelines, and client needs.
• Process field survey crew data.
• Create stakeout data for construction layout.
• Create final point clouds for design and as-built purposes.
• Maintain project point database files.
• Prepare base survey mapping.
• Conduct field trips to clarify/verify survey data or assist field staff.
• Analyze sketches, drawings, notes, and/or verbal information supplied by an engineer, surveyor, technician, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
• Revise and/or modify drawings as necessary.
• Plot, organize and assemble project related documents.
• Compile and process geographic data from a variety of sources including LiDAR, public domain data warehouses, field observations, remote sensing and existing geographical data.
• Input, organize and catalogue data from LiDAR and other systems.
• Perform quality control checks on data.
• Identify issues and ensure that jobs are completed according to schedule.
• Communicate efficiently with project team members to meet multi-user goals.
• Maintain exceptional internal and external client relations.
• All other duties as assigned.


Requirements for this position include:
• 1 year of land surveying experience.
• Associate’s degree of Land Surveying/Civil Engineering Technology, CAD or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic understanding of land surveying principles and practices.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong work ethic and team-player attitude.
• Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to receive and process feedback and provide feedback.
• Must pass pre-employment background check. Must be able to pass a drug test.
• Travel may be required.
• Required to have a valid driver license with a clean driving record.
