SME is pleased to announce that Tiffany D. Vorhies, NACE CIP-2, has been elected to serve as chair of the Detroit Area Section of NACE (formerly the National Association of Corrosion Engineers).

Vorhies previously served as the Section’s vice chair for two years and has been an active member of the organization since 2011. During her time with NACE, the Section has led the effort to offer CIP-1 training in Michigan, an opportunity that was not previously available in the state. As Chair, Vorhies is focused on expanding this and other training programs, as well as growing the Section membership to include professionals from a variety of related industries.

Vorhies is a Senior Project Manager for Steel and Coatings, and currently manages a team of certified coating and steel inspectors at SME. She has been performing coatings inspection and specification for eight years, and is considered a local expert for coating assessments. Her coating project inspection experience includes multiple bridges, tank liners, tank exteriors, water towers, building facades, structural steel, helipads, stadiums, coast guard boats, piping and many specialty components. Vorhies has written specifications ranging from corrosion mitigation in high corrosion natatoriums to the lead based paint removal and recoating of an entire football stadium. Her steel related project management experience includes projects such as conveyor integrity assessments, American Petroleum Institute (API) tank audits, bridge inspections, fabrication shop audits, and specialty nondestructive testing (NDT) reviews.
