Their unparalleled environmental and geotechnical engineering experience strengthen SME’s well-earned reputation of providing industry-leading solutions to tough technical challenges.

Colin O. Flaherty, CP, CPG, PG is a Senior Consultant in our Columbus office. Working as an environmental consultant for over 15 years, Colin has gained broad technical and professional consulting experience. He utilizes his extensive environmental and geosciences experience to manage a variety of projects including Phase I/II environmental site assessments (ESAs), brownfields, UST projects, hydrogeological site investigations, and numerous forms of environmental monitoring and reporting. Colin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Geology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He holds registrations and board positions with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) and is an Ohio Voluntary Action Program Certified Professional.

Benjamin M. Chenoweth possesses over 15 years of consulting experience including work in both water supply and environmental compliance. A Project Consultant in SME”s Columbus office, Ben has managed and conducted numerous projects for private industrial and municipal clients including on-site Phase I and Phase II investigations, vapor intrusion studies, UST investigation and removals. He has performed extensive field work for the collection of hydrogeologic and environmental data and conducted computer modeling of surface and groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport. Ben earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology from Bowdoin College.

Bret B. Stuntz is a geologist and an attorney who provides expertise to various developer, industrial, and municipal clients to help them overcome financial, environmental, legal/regulatory, and logistical barriers to successful projects. A Senior Consultant in SME’s Detroit office, he specializes in brownfield and other troubled-site redevelopment, navigating the complex interplay between markets, brownfield site conditions, real estate finance, agency regulations, incentive procurement and management, and implementation of remediation and construction activities. Bret has 18 years of environmental consulting and real estate finance experience. Bret holds a B.A. in Geology from the University of Pennsylvania and received his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is a Housing Development Finance Professional for the National Development Council.

Wesley (Wes) J. Hemp, PE, PG, LEED AP has joined SME’s Indianapolis office as a Senior Project Engineer. He brings expertise in shallow and deep foundations systems; delineation, characterization, and remediation of karst features including selection and implementation of geophysical evaluation techniques; forensic evaluation of failed slopes, retaining structures, and pavements; and liquefaction analysis. Wes earned a Masters of Engineering (M.S.) in Civil Engineering, a Certificate in Environmental Engineering, and B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in eight states, is a Registered Professional Geoscientist, as well as a LEED Accredited Professional. Wes is an active member of the Kentucky Geotechnical Engineering Group and the Kentucky Society of Professional Geologists.
