Vice President Geotechnical

Joel Rinkel, PE is the Chief Engineer for the Geotechnical business unit at SME. He is primarily responsible for the development, operations, and visibility of the geotechnical group. He is a registered professional engineer with 28 years experience providing geotechnical engineering services, construction materials services, pavement engineering, geo-civil design services, dewatering design services, shoring and underpinning design services, building monitoring and condition assessment services, forensics evaluations for below-grade structures, and expert witness testimony. Joel Rinkel also serves as Owner’s representative for assessing subsurface conditions and their impact on the design and performance of subgrade-supported structures. Joel has BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering. He has been a project manager for more than 2,500 geo-civil and shoring design, geotechnical, pavement, and construction materials services projects.
